Parks, Pool Parties and Barbecues: Long live Summer 2013

This week we discovered some new local Parks...

Top: Shopruche (Old)
Shorts: J.Crew
Wedges: Clarks
Aaron's shirt: Southern tide

Enjoyed a pool party and met some new friends
....and indulged in a backyard Barbecue

Maybe I'm experiencing some sort of midlife crisis at 30, but lately I've been wanting to capture every memory. I can't stop taking pictures and documenting everything that we are doing. These small snippets of happiness with friends and family are only a part of a chapter of our lives that will soon change again. Who knows, this time next year we could be somewhere else with a whole new group of friends. Will I ever be able to do this with the same people again?

Think back to your life 10 years ago. What were you doing then? What were some of your most pleasant memories? 10 years ago I was in college, having the time of my life with a group of God-loving friends who shaped my character and soul, and whom I will never forget. Those details are stored on an organic memory-drive deep within my brain that will someday probably degenerate into nothing. Not to sound morbid. I can't tell you how many times I've wished that I could go back to those days and live out those times again, but change is inevitable, and change is good. Change is life.

I want Grace to look back and see how happy she was while she was growing up. We are so fortunate to live in a time period where technology allows us to capture such intricate and attentive details of our lives. As silly as it sounds, documenting something as simple as what we did during our summer of 2013 with great friends and family will be met with smiles and nostalgia in another 10 years from now. Especially when Grace, at age 12 asks us someday "What was I like as a baby?"

She'll see these pictures and know that she loved to smile, she had a good friend named Annabelle who she shared corn and toys with together, she enjoyed pool parties and stroller rides to the park, grandma and grandpa loved her dearly, and her mommy use to be young and tried to be fashionable... but oh for pete's sake what IS MOMMY WEARING?

I hope it's okay that I weave some snippets of my life with my attempted fashion posts. It helps me remember, appreciate, and give thanks for all the great things that God continues to bless our lives with. Thank you for being part of it!

  3. I really, really, REALLY enjoyed reading this post. Especially this part:

Those details are stored on an organic memory-drive deep within my brain that will someday probably degenerate into nothing.

Isn't that so true? On the flip hand, I totally discard Instagram for literally capturing every second of your life. Sometimes, you're so caught up in documenting, that you forget to live in the moment and have fun. But on the other hand, these moments are so precious, and they help evoke an emotion, that part of the memory that is stored in the oblivion. I was born in the 80's when cameras were so obsolete, and sometimes I wish I had more baby/childhood pictures. This post totally made me nostalgic, btw :) Grace is going to look back and have a huge smile on her face.

  17. Great post! Yeah, it's crazy to think how quickly time goes by and how fast things in your life can change in a blink of an eye. I love capturing memories as well, which is why I always have my camera on me. 10 years ago I was 13, which is crazy to think about!! Seems like you captured some really great memories in this post. I haven't seen old fashioned coke bottles like that in so long! Love your outfit The floral top is so breezy. It looks like a water painting : )

  23. Grace looks like she had a fun time! I think it's great to take photos to remember all the great moments. The plus in it being all digitized is that all the photos are so easy to organize and peruse! I find myself looking back quite often at old photos and reminisce. It's a little chapter in our lives, and it's wonderful to try and capture the moment this way. Grace will thank you for it!

  26. I really need to be better about documenting life for the kids, but I always feel weird busting out a camera and taking pictures during larger gatherings, so all the pictures i have of them is just them playing at home! They'll look back at their pictures and be like, "wow mom you really didn't take us out of the house much!" haha

And I love your floral top! it goes perfect with your shorts! :) Little Grace is SO darling. Is that a cast on her arm? I hope she's okay!

I when I read posts that are more personal, it almost brings your photos to life:) I think about the same thing as we are looking to start a family. Even though we do not have kids yet, we have two dogs and I always take photos and videos of them to not only have for our memories, but to show our kids someday too!

Thanks again for stopping by my blog and so happy to have been introduced to yours!!

What do you mean you hope it's ok? It's more than welcome and your blog after all. I think it's really lovely to weave in your life's snippets coz it allows us readers to know more about you.

I'm like you. I take snapshots of every little thing in life. It helps me document my memories and I find that I recall so much more things than my friends coz when I blog, I look back at the photos and remember that day's happenings.

It is good that you capture all these memories for your daughter too. Grace is such a lovely little girl as beautiful as mummy. BTW, you look like one of our local actress from long ago when I was a child. She is no longer acting.

You seem like a really nice lady and I would love to continue the 2-way communication with you. Will be hitting the follower buttons on both GFC and bloglovin after this. Hope to see you around too. =)
